Ann Marie Benzinger spoke with Patrick Collins, Director of Public Affairs at CSL Behring yesterday, August 13, 2008. Our conversation addressed the concerns of the patient community about the pending purchase of the Talecris holdings by CSL Limited, the parent company for CSL Behring.
The first thing CSL Behring would like to convey to the public is their commitment to serving all alphas whether they are using therapies manufactured by Talecris or CSL Behring. The acquisition of Talecris must be approved by the federal regulatory authorities and until such approval takes place, both companies will continue to be run independently. As of now, all contact points individuals may have with representatives for CSL Behring and Talecris remain the same.
At the present time, Talecris continues to manufacture Prolastin at its Clayton, North Carolina plant. All contracts for goods and services that are in place will be honored. This includes contracts in the United States, Canada and Europe.
Mr. Collins has offered to field any questions you may have. You are welcome to email them to me at
abenzinger @ alpha1advocacy.org (remove space to email) and I will pass them on. Some questions may not be able to be answered at this time due to the pending regulatory approval of the sale. CSL Behring cannot make assertions about Talecris therapies, facilities, or their research and development pipeline as they are competing companies and will remain so until approval of the acquisition by the federal regulatory authorities. I will make sure your questions are posed to Mr. Collins and that you receive a response.
CSL Behring will have a Senior Executive at our Weekend in Washington conference on October 4, 2008 to further advise on this new acquisition.
The following is the letter we received on August 12, 2008.
 August 12, 2008 I would like to make you aware that CSL Limited, the parent company of CSL Behring, has signed an agreement to acquire Talecris, one of the world's major suppliers of plasma-derived protein therapies for serious and rare conditions. CSL plans to combine Talecris' business into CSL Behring. Peter Turner, who has been President of CSL Behring since its formation in 2004, will head the business. The combination of CSL Behring and Talecris is highly complementary and combines Talecris' key products and manufacturing capacity with CSL Behring's established, global product offerings and manufacturing platform. The new entity will have the broadest product portfolio in the industry and leading products in each plasma therapeutic area. This transaction will benefit patients and customers in a number of ways:
CSL Behring is strongly committed to providing high-quality therapies that save and improve the lives of people around the world. We will continue to support patient organizations and activities at responsible levels that benefit patient communities. The companies will file for regulatory approval with the appropriate authorities and, until approved, the companies will continue to operate as usual. Your contacts with CSL Behring remain the same.
