    Inhalers aka Bronchodilators

    Inhalers aka Bronchodilators:
Most Alpha 1 lung patients are prescribed at least one inhaler to help them in their battle against the effects of shortness of breath (SOB). Most of us were given a prescription to fill, very few instructions and life went on. The following website offers some good information about bronchodilators. It includes information on the reasons they work, how to use them, common side effects and some of the more common interactions and precautions one should know about. It's good basic information.

The Respiratory Institute, established by GlaxoSmithKline, has some excellent, resourceful information. Included in this web site are specific ways to use inhalers and spacers, the new Diskus inhalers, information about peak flow meters, nebulizers and spirometry. They also supply other useful information so explore it thoroughly.

For specific inhaler specifications and instructions, go to our HOME page on this web site (http://www.alpha1advocacy.org) and scroll to the bottom of the page to the Google search. Submit the name of the pharmaceutical company or the inhaler in the Google search and click on www and search. This will bring up many sites that should include the name of the manufacturer of your specific inhaler. Some of the more common ones are listed below.

    AstraZeneca LP: Pulmicort Turbuhaler
    Aventis Pharmaceuticals: Intal, Tilade, Azmacort
    Boehringer Ingelheim: Atrovent, Combivent, Alupent
