Genetics and Alpha-1
The following site is very good in going from A to Z in explaining alpha-1 to the newly diagnosed patient and family. It goes to great length to explain the changes that occur in the lung and has some excellent illustrations. This site also clearly discusses the liver involvement that is often neglected of discussed lightly. Included are risk factors, descriptions of pulmonary function tests, genetic statistics and other diseases often related to Alpha-1.

The following web page from the National Institute of Health (NIH) provides some very basic explanations about Alpha 1 lung disease. It does not cover any aspect of the liver side of the disease. It is easy to read and fairly simple to understand and a good read for helping others understand your disease without heavy details.
