Lung Transplants: |
So, you've been told you need a lung transplant. Where do you turn? Your first step will be finding a transplant center. The following web site will give you a listing of the lung transplant centers in the US with web sites that you can visit: www.transweb.org/reference/sites/centers.htm For a complete listing of ALL lung transplant centers, visit the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) web site at http://www.unos.org/members/directory.asp If this link fails to work, go to www.unos.org look under member resources and then type in lung transplant centers, using all regions for the complete listing. You may need to keep in mind whether your insurance will cover you at a specific center. Some centers are not approved by Medicare or insurance companies because of how many transplants they perform in a year or the reimbursement procedures. It doesn't mean you can not go there, you will just be responsible for more of the financial expenses. One of the most important things you must do in finding a transplant center is finding one where you are comfortable and have full confidence in the staff. You can work with on location and the financials, but trusting your center and being able to work with them should be your primary concerns. YOU are the patient and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. The UNOS web site has a tremendous amount of information for the patient and the caregiver. www.unos.org provides statistics on each center, national statistics on success rates and numerous pages of information about transplantation. It is an excellent site to just sit and visit with.
