First Annual Alpha-1 Advocacy Alliance Show & Shine

    Hello Friends,

November 6th, 2005, a beautiful weekend with Sunday being a little windy but sun was shining. Bill Poplett, put together our very First Annual Alpha-1 Advocacy Alliance Show & Shine and celebrating Organ and Tissue Donor Sabbath. Granted it was a Sunday but we had a turnout of some 50 vehicles of every description and condition. Classics, Street Rods, Old School Rat Rods, Dune Buggies, to Kustom Kemps.

Ann Marie and her Grandson Jonathan, along with Richard McQuigg came down to help out with registration, T-shirt sales, judging, and raffling of related car items and free dinners to free milkshakes at DQ. In addition three other buddies' of Bill, help out with setting up the tents and being my right arms (or lungs if you will). This proved to be a great alpha-1 awareness experience with also having the American Lung Association and our area, Organ Procurement organization, LifeNet available to help. All total we had 7 of us with Hearts, Lungs, Liver, and Kidney transplants represented.

Our, First Annual Alpha-1 Advocacy Alliance Show & Shine, had the vehicles broken down to Top 25, Oldest Driver, Farthest Driven vehicle to the Show, and most important, the Best In Show. The best thing was the drivers all thought the show as a great financial and awareness success. They're looking forward to our next Second Annual Car Show & Shine of which is already in the planning stage.
